Apple teases us with “Hi, Speed”

Apple’s ‘Hi, Speed’ event invitation is here, welcoming all to a virtual event on Tuesday, October 13.

We can reasonably expect Apple will show off new and fast things. (We don’t think Apple is greeting ‘Speed’, the bus that couldn’t slow down movie).

  • Apple is probably greeting its 5G capabilities in the iPhone 12 range, its new A14 processors, and other speedy things. Maybe a high-refresh-rate display, too?
  • Again, that range should be something like the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, all the way up to a 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max, the biggest of the range, and the biggest ever iPhone.
  • The small-sized 5.4-inch iPhone 12 mini is likely to spur copycats. There’s been a push to see smaller size flagships as phone sizes have increased, and with Apple leading the way here with a flagship, not just it’s budget iPhone SE, I’d expect smaller Android phones from makers like Xiaomi, Samsung, and Oppo, before long. Gotta compete with Apple.
  • In any case, we’ll keep an eye on the leaks and rumors as they continue. One question floating around is if we’ll see a Mac with Apple Silicon be announced, launched, or even talked about. I’d guess yes to mention, but not launch at this event.

Four rings?

  • Apple always sends a unique event invitation with some illustrations or effects. The four rings you can see here could mean… four camera lenses? Four new devices? Does Apple like circles?
  • The speculation I’ve seen that seems accurate is the blue is for midnight blue, an expected new color option for the iPhone. The orange color is less clear, given that hasn’t been leaked/expected.
  • Others are saying the rings relate to round AirTag modules, HomePod, HomePod mini, and Apple’s expected headphones.
  • One last clue: The AR easter egg in the event announcement showed the rings as bubbles. Hm.

Busy times:
